The concept of fair wages in Christianity?

When a Christian applies for a job, he/she is in the world order and competing against others, both Christian and non-Christian. So the applicant is subject to the same opposing forces of fairness and injustice that all experience. God never promised us prosperity, but he promised to supply our needs and to never forsake us. I know a lot of Christians that are in jobs different than the one they trained for. I'd also say there are a lot of people (including believers) that have suffered a terrible streak of what some call "bad luck" this past 2 weeks, but caring people (including Christ-followers) have come out and helped them start to dig out and rebuild. Does God love them any less than those whose homes were spared? To our eyes, it seems terribly unfair, but we are in the middle of the story and cannot see to what ends this event may steer lives. (The story of Job comes to mind here.) We are taught to be "be content" in whatever state we are in...very difficult to do on our own, but easier when we lean on His "everlasting arms."
