How accurate are microscopes?

Microscopes, like any kind of instrument or machine, come in various degrees of quality. A $50 microscope won't let you see microscopic objects very well at all. A $500 instument will give you a pretty good view of many microscopic things. A $5000 microscope will give you excellent resolution that will enable you to see things you could not possibly see with either of the other two instruments.
