Why are religions not accountable for their profits?

The constitution of the united states specifically prohibits the government from being involved in religion. It does not prevent religion from involving itself in Government but it has been interpreted this way. After all, if we had a religious government then wouldn't the government be involved in religion? You can do almost anything in this country as long as you call it a religion.
